November 26, 2009 - Start of Volksplane Cowl

Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving Weekend.  A old KR2 cowling was cut on both sides of center leaving the cutout for the crankshaft intact.  The insides were cleaned. sanded, and fiberglassed together.  After the fiberglass has cured, the cowl top and bottom were fastened together.  Additional trimming was done to help fair the shape.  Additional sanding removed the top layer of filler and primer.  I also cut a disk of fiberglass  and bonded the fuel float cap and set it aside to dry.  The fuel float was soldered from a couple of small soup cans.  Total time spent was 10 hours.
