Totem Bight Historical Park

Totem bight Historical Park features totem poles rescued from many abandoned Native American sites in the area.  As Native American people moved in search of jobs, education, and housing in urban centers, their belongings were left behind.  After 20 to 30 years it was realized that they were starting to loose their culture.  Many Native Americans went back to salvage things such as totem poles.  The average lifespan of a totem pole is 70 to 80 years.  Many of the older poles were in very bad shape, but today they have made copies of the original totems.  These copies are on display in Bight Historical Park along with a replica of a typical clan House where the tribe would live.
