Ko'ie'ie Fishpond

This fishpond was built during the rule of Umi a Hawaiian Chief.  The walls were originally several yards wide and rose above high tide level.  The existing walls have been warn down by the constant wave action of the sea.  The fish pond covers over six acres and allowed the Hawaiians to raise over 2000 lb of fish a year.

The walls are being rebuilt to preserve this part of Hawaiian heritage and as a testament to Hawaiian engineering.
