Waimea Canyon

These pictures were taken from the Waimea Canyon Lookout.  When Mark Twain was here` he called it "the Grand Canyon of the Pacific."  The layers evident on the sides of the canyon are reminiscent of the grander canyon in Arizona.  Each layer represents a different eruption and subsequent lava flow.  The canyon is 10 miles long, 1 mile wide, and more than 3,600 feet deep
