Santo Domingo

     We arrived October 3rd at airport and took a Taxi to Hotel Atarazana in the Ciudad Colonial area on the western bank of the Rio Ozama.  This 11 square block area was where Columbus's men finally came ashore in the new world in 1498.  These are the same streets that were walked by the conquistadors as the Spanish plotted their Conquests.  Many of the buildings date back to the 1500s.  There is much restoration going on to preserve this area for future generations.

    After putting our things in our room were invited to the courtyard for a cold drink.  After refreshments, were off to explore.   We spent the first afternoon and all the next day without leaving the Ciudad Colonial
