Altos de Chavon

This is the most visited tourist spot in the Southeast.  High above the Rio Chavon sits this mock 16th-century Mediterranean village.  It was built in 1976.  Some people say it was built as a birthday gift to the daughter of the owners of the Casa de Campo, others say it was built to give Casa de Campo guests something to look at.  Whatever the reason it now houses a internationally recognized artist's community.
